The Acorn

What I’m about to tell you will be the fastest way for you to know that what I write about and live my life by, isn’t all bullshit. It’s so easy anyone can do it, about almost anything. It’s so blatantly obvious that we don’t realize we’ve been doing it our whole lives.

Last summer, in the midst of learning what the Universe provides for us and beginning to really tune into my spirituality, I was gifted with another form of guidance. Asking for a sign. Ask and you shall receive, such a basic concept that is so hugely overlooked. I feel bad because I can’t remember where I heard it first. That’s not the important part, since now I realize almost everyone else knew about it way before me.

One morning, I sat on my bed for just a few minutes longer after my meditation. An acorn popped into my head and I thought it was the most absurd sign, but I went with it. I mean, it was so random I wouldn’t have been able to miss it. A few weeks went by and I sort of forgot about it. I was beginning to read the tarot cards and they were giving me so much insight already that the acorn was the last thing on my mind. Then I signed up for the Virtual Spartan Trifecta races. I was unprepared to say the least. I wasn’t running as often or nearly as long as I should have been to do a race, even if it were just a virtual one. Those km’s still rang higher compared to what I had run all year. The lack of a race season for 2020 had killed my motivation for most training but my love of Obstacle Course Racing trumps laziness and always has. I chose to run the longest Spartan Race at a local park with a trail. The Spartan Beast is a 21.5 km race with 30 obstacles. The trail we were running was only about 3 km, so I had to loop…a lot. I can’t deny that I was dreading this one, I had worked the night before which meant I wasn’t starting until around 1:00pm. Last summer was also one of the hottest summers to date and I wasn’t super excited about 21km at 1:00 pm in the afternoon in 40 degree weather. Excuses filled my head but I ran anyway.

As I was running, I got multiple “signs” such as bird feathers floating in front me. Okay, not bad but we are outside with birds flying around. Since I was using my phone for race tunes, I could hear all of my notifications. Without a doubt the largest amount of dings I heard through those three hours of racing, were people clicking on my website to read my latest blog. I felt inspired, grateful and so happy with each little ding, which helped push me further as I could feel myself slowly draining. Then I remembered my acorn and couldn’t help but to think to about how I haven’t gotten that sign yet. As soon as I remembered, I noticed all the broken acorns scattered around me as I ran. I wasn’t satisfied yet; the human race rarely is. I remember thinking, “That’s not good enough, we’re at a park and they are everywhere. I need it to more distinct”. Then I saw her. The most perfect, whole acorn laying in the middle of the asphalt in front of me. On the asphalt, the most abnormal spot to find an acorn with the least amount of trees around. I picked her up, stuffed her in my sports bra and she came home with me.

A few months later during the fall, I asked again. It didn’t have to be an acorn, but something told me to go with it. That’s called intuition by the way, which is a story for another day. I was unpacking groceries at home and Tyra noticed some of the vegetables I had bought. It was like slow motion as she said, “it looks like we’re both cooking Acorn Squash this week!” I looked at her and laughed knowing that it had been my sign. See, it doesn’t have to be so obvious or immediate to be there. Sometimes it will take weeks, or it’ll take ten minutes. You will have to search for it or other times just forget about it. One thing to remember is, you will always get your sign. All you have to do is ask.

How to get your sign:

1. It’s best to do post meditation, when you’re in a calm state with no distractions. If you haven’t jumped on the meditation train yet, you can do it after reading or even while you’re in the shower. The important part is to be in a state of receiving, you must be feeling good.

2. Be clear and distinct. Speak to the Universe or your guides or the Archangels, whoever you feel comfortable opening up to and let them know that you’re in need of guidance.

3. Ask. Your question can be whatever you need it to be. Your sign is going to be the first thing that pops into your head. Don’t overthink it, and don’t try to change the sign after you’ve already thought of it.

4. Say thank you. Once you’ve felt like you have sent your request out, say thank you, take a deep breath and let it go.

A few notes:

Look for your sign within ten minutes after you have requested it. The Universe likes speed and depending on your question, you could get your sign relatively fast. If you don’t get your sign right away, be patient and do not let it consume you. If you’re having a hard time with the wording of your request try using the phrase “Dear Universe and guides I am asking for a sign. A sign that is out of the ordinary for my daily life. I am asking to see a ____ if I am getting _____ this year”.

Most recently I’ve been trying something different as I am weighing my options on a certain subject. I’m testing trying out two signs, which will be a deciding factor. I have received something that had come relatively close to one, again I am not satisfied. Knowing that if I have patience, I will get the clear sign I asked for. As far as anything goes in life, somethings you don’t need a sign for. If you’re asking for guidance and a sign on a topic that you're already being pulled in one direction, you most likely know the answer. I’m not saying you wouldn’t get the sign, but your gut and most importantly your heart already know most answers even when our mind tries to fight them.

Whatever you ask for, know that you are always the one to create your future.
